I’m very prolific on the various mainstream social networks. Networks such as Facebook, X, and Instagram. I’m even expanding my scope to Reddit to find like minded people, share knowledge, and make friends. I’m also looking for adverse opinions; things that contradict my set of beliefs so I can grow wiser.
What I’m encountering is that a lot of people operate from what is commonly called “confirmation bias,” which is very unscientific. They have a certain result in mind and tamper with evidence to suit their purposes.
Arguing with people who aren’t capable of changing their minds is a Herculian task, many internet users are quite dogmatic this way; it’s like certain “residents” of the world wide web are stuck in their ways. I believe a popular term for this is “brainwashed.” They cling to what they’ve been told and have internalized complete narratives.
It’s very interesting from an anthropological perspective and I’m enjoying the experiment.
